I recommend this movie anytime! If you like my type of movies, you will love this. I am inspired again to get back to catching up on my favorite show: 24. To me, the ideas are similar. I love those types of movies...covert operations, CIA other intelligence agencies like homeland security, high-tech gadgets, fast paced, action, super-hero that can't be killed, and most imporantly, SOMEONE who is extremely good at what they do. That inspires me over and over again. Whenever I watch movies like that, I am inspired to be the best that I can be, in the little area that God has empowered me to work in.

I have been wanting to blog about this for a while now 'but haven't had the tine. Well, today is the day to blog some about the things Iam up to with regards to my interest in musical instruments.

I have been learning fundamental music theory, using the Piano. My actual instrument is the Saxophone but I realized that spending Sone time on the Piano/ keyboard is Probably a good way to get back to the Basics and rudiments of music. In anything, understanding the fundamental framework is key to excelling anyway...so i think this makes sense.

How I am learning: I was referred to this guy - Denis Bach, he is the one that has been training me. I started up by reading his music theory which you can find here. That was helpful, though a lot of it was a refresher for me.

For anyone interested in music lessons Denis is really talented in many instruments Guitar, keyboard, drums, Violin, etc and his lessons ave really affordable. Best of all, I an able to relate to his style of teaching because he is an “analytic” guy who gives the proper attention to the “why” of things, as apposed to people who just do things because that is how it has been done. And for me, understanding the pattern, the “why“ and the underlying framework is what helps me learn and retain what I learn.

Wow. this is turning into long post. I am using a stylus on a tablet PC to write this and its a very different experience. I imagine dictation with Dragon or similar technology is just as frustrating as this. My handwriting sucks anyway, so that doesn't make things better. Plus my typing is like 10 times faster than this. hmmmm . Tired now, will Complete theirs post on a real keyboard later!

Convergence of devices and media...consumer electronics

<trackback:ping>http://inthrill.com/weblogs/bunmi/services/trackbacks/262.aspx</trackback:ping>

I read an article in the wall street journal that prompted this post. It takes a critical look at the future, when it comes to consumer electronics, specifically, media and home entertainment.

So, today the basic home has the following services/devices:

1. Phone line - Phone

2. Cable modem/dsl - Internet

4. Cable/Satellite - TV

5. Cell-Phone

6. Digital camera

7. PDA

8. Home PC

9. Game Consoles

10. MP3 players/IPODs

11. TV

12. DVR/Tivo

Sometimes we even have more. Basically, bandwidth is getting fatter on Cable Modem/DSLs such that thos providers are putting Voip (Voice over Internet) through the internet line. So you basically get a phone service on your internet line - single provider. Same thing is happening with cell-phone providers, courting/acquiring internet service providers.

PDA devices are now including Cell phone features, or vice versa (Cell phones includingn PDA features)...so we are seeing convergence in that space. Also, Cell phones/PDAs/Combos are now including digital cameras...hmmm...

Cell phones are now including MP3 players...TVs are now getting smarter, with integration with the phone line for caller ID on TV...Home PCs are now being used for making phone calls - Skype (Great tool by the way)....

With all these convergence going on...there are duplications of efforts...media (mp3 files, video files, pictures, audio recordings, audio books, etc) are all being stored in various places...duplication of data...and lack of interoperability between the devices are the issues that we need to solve soon. You need to be able to play your TIVO stored tv recordings on your phone...or view your digi-cam images seamlessly on your TV.

I feel WIFI will have to play a big part in the integration and interoperability of all these devices. Every device should be WIFI enabled...and they should all be on an “internal“ network...that way we can still have good copyright protection while a household is able to seamlessly access/view media stored on any device from any device.

There needs to be a transparant standard interface to media that should be exposed (something like a webservice - so that all devices, independent of vendor can talk to each other). And the interface for accessing these devices need to be very simple and relatively consistent, regardless of media type, device type, or vendor.

To be continued...

New Year's day.
* I started watching the mini-episode of the show called the 4400 that showed on Fox for a short while. I loved it. I heard it is now available on DVD...so I will be picking up a copy tonight. Second season is coming in 2005...look out for that. Here is a summary of what the show was about...interesting huh?

“Over the last century, thousands of people have gone missing. Suddenly and inexplicably, 4400 missing people are returned all at once, as they were on the day they vanished. Unclear what this world altering-event means, the government investigates the 4400 to piece together where they've been and why they've been returned. It quickly becomes apparent that their presence will change the human race in ways no one could have ever foreseen. Over the last century, thousands of people have gone missing. But it was well worth it! Because I had such a great company hehe. I highly recommend this movie...I don't think it was quite as good as as the first, but it was a very good and engaging movie!
By the way, I also caught a few other movies in the past couple weeks, they include: Collateral (kind of ok, was expecting more from Denzel), Spiderman 2 (which was incredible especially since I saw it on IMAX), Harold and Kumar goes to white castle (very good, very funny, though retarded movie).
GLUGNET (greater lansing .NET user group) meeting is going down tomorrow. It should be a great time. Martin Shoemaker (INETA) from tabletuml.com will be speaking on Design patterns in C#. I think we'd have a great turnout! We have been promoting the group a bit. Also, Ryan Doom will be speaking on Rainbow portal - how the GLUGNET.ORG site was built, using ASP.NET - We wish him luck

Great weekend so far

<trackback:ping>http://inthrill.com/weblogs/bunmi/services/trackbacks/199.aspx</trackback:ping>
Aside from work on friday evening and saturday...clubbin' friday night after a 2 month vacation from all that...I'll go catch the new Tom Cruise/Jamie fox movie: Collateral tonight. fun times!

Belated blog for Friday

<trackback:ping>http://inthrill.com/weblogs/bunmi/services/trackbacks/154.aspx</trackback:ping>
Went to the movies with the girls...after a stressful week, u sure need somethn'
We went to see the movie "Changing the rules" with Morris Chestnut, Jamie fox and that hot black girl that's in every black movie.
