Dallas Mavericks Beat the Odds, Land No. 1 Pick in 2025 NBA Draft Lottery

The Dallas Mavericks beat the odds, literally. With just a 1.8% chance at landing the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, the Mavs got lucky and came out on top. All signs now point to them selecting Duke phenom Cooper Flagg, the projected top prospect. It’s a much-needed win for Dallas after facing heavy criticism for trading away Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers earlier this year.
Meanwhile, the Jazz, Wizards, and Hornets, all with better odds, slipped out of the top 3. The Chicago Bulls landed at No. 12.
The 2025 Draft Class is shaping up to be a strong one, headlined by Flagg but also featuring elite talent like Dylan Harper, Arious “Ace” Bailey, VJ Edgecombe, and Tre Johnson. For a full look at projected picks, check out ESPN’s 2025 NBA Mock Draft.
