Ryan Garcia Falls in Main Event as Devin Haney and Teofimo Lopez Secure Wins

When DAZN pitched fans the idea of hosting fights in the middle of Times Square, expectations were high, especially with a stacked card featuring some of boxing’s biggest names. The concept and setup were nothing short of incredible, creating a unique atmosphere in the heart of New York City. But while the visuals were impressive, the boxing itself didn’t quite meet the hype, according to fans and reactions online.

Teofimo Lopez delivered the most exciting performance of the night with a dominant showing against Arnold Barboza Jr. It was arguably the most entertaining fight on the card. Meanwhile, Devin Haney looked flat in his bout against Jose Ramirez. The effects of a one-year layoff were clear from the opening bell—Haney appeared hesitant and threw fewer punches than expected. Still, he managed to secure the win, as Ramirez failed to mount much of an offense.

The biggest disappointment of the night was Ryan Garcia. Whether it was ring rust or the absence of whatever edge he had in the Haney fight, Garcia looked like a shadow of his former self. He talked a big game going in, but once in the ring, he didn’t back it up. After getting knocked down in the second round by Rolly Romero, Garcia failed to show much for the rest of the fight.

Overall, the Times Square setting was a creative and exciting choice, and we respect DAZN for pushing boundaries. For future events, adding more seating could help fighters feed off the energy of the crowd. As for the boxing, many of the fighters seemed rusty and off their game. Hopefully, the next showcase will deliver the level of action fans were expecting.

In the meantime, check out the full highlights above.
