Sony Officially Confirms The ‘PlayStation Portal’

Sony reenters the Portable Gaming Scene with PlayStation Portal: Your Gateway to Gaming On the Go! Priced at just $199.99, the handheld marvel ushers in PS5 game streaming over Wi-Fi, boasting an expansive eight-inch LCD screen delivering pristine 1080p resolution at an impressive 60fps. Sony aficionados, brace yourselves as the PlayStation Portal gears up for a later this year debut.

However, note that the PlayStation Portal doesn’t sport Bluetooth connectivity, ruling out wireless headphones or the coveted Pulse 3D headset. Instead, it introduces the innovative PlayStation Link wireless technology—a proprietary standard designed to serve PlayStation devices with low latency, lossless audio. And that’s not all; Sony’s unveiling a new wireless headset and earbuds tailored to support PlayStation Link.

Also, here’s the catch: “Games that must be streamed on PS5 using a PS Plus Premium membership are not compatible,” cautions Sony. In essence, the PlayStation Portal serves as your conduit for remotely playing already-installed PS5 games on your main console. To make the most of this experience, ensure an internet connection that can muster at least 5Mbps, with Sony recommending a smoother ride at 15Mbps. Get ready to unleash portable gaming like never before!”

IGN was able to get their hands on the PlayStation Portal and you can check out the video above. We will be updating the site with release information.
