The Most Interesting Domino Effects in History

A domino effect is a chain of events triggered by one thing or another on one side of the equation, leading to something affected farther down the line. One slight push of a domino can bring down thousands if placed right, and the same applies to history. Read on to learn about the most interesting domino effects in history.

9/11 and My Chemical Romance

One of the most influential rock bands from the last two decades, My Chemical Romance, has some interesting beginnings. On 9/11, lead singer Gerard Way was on the Hudson River on a ferry, witnessing the terrorist attack. The experience led him to therapy and ultimately got him to pick up the guitar again. He was working as an intern at Cartoon Network at the time, but the experience brought him back into songwriting, and he quickly wrote ‘Skylines And Turnstiles’ and then got the rest of the band together. From that point forward, the rest is history.

The Cold War and Toyota

Toyota has been around for a long time, but they weren’t always the vehicle giants they are today. Early in their history, they were not doing too well and were even close to bankruptcy. During this period, the Cold War was going on, and numerous countries were fighting against the spread of communism in the world, and one result of the war was the Toyota boom. This history is just one of the fun facts you may not know about Toyota and how it got to where it is today.

One conflict during this period was the Korean War, lasting from 1950-1953. Toyota was struggling following the end of World War II, but when the US involved itself in the Korean War, it contracted Toyota to produce thousands of vehicles from them. This new demand brought Toyota back to life, leading them to be the automotive leaders they are today.

YouTube and Janet Jackson

The year was 2004, and Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake performed during the Super Bowl halftime show. Somehow the choreography got off, and Timberlake’s planned movement accidentally led to the Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction. At the time, TV recordings were rare, and videos on the internet were even rarer. Three people working at PayPal tried to find a clip of the incident but to no avail. Because of this, they quit their jobs and decided to create a video streaming site, and in the next year, they did—YouTube. Since this point, YouTube has become one of the most popular websites of all time.

These are the most interesting domino effects in history, but what makes the domino effect so interesting is that these events could lead to even more things. For example, the growth of Toyota spurred on Tesla; My Chemical Romance influenced artists like Billie Eilish, Post Malone, Paramore, etc. Almost everything connects in one way or the other; this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to those connections.
