Celtics Take Care of Business In Game 5, Beat Mavs To Win 18th NBA Title
Even though the Celtics had a commanding 3-1 lead in the 2024 NBA Finals, they were in a dangerous spot tonight after getting blown out in game 4 in Dallas. The Mavs knew they could head back to Dallas to chase history if they could pull a win in game 5 on the road. But the Celtics proved why they were the better team tonight in Boston with tight, solid defense from the start. Jason Tatum was hot, putting up 31 points in 45 minutes of playing time.
Jaylen Brown added 21 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists, which was enough to earn him the NBA Finals MVP award. He was undoubtedly the most consistent player for the Celtics in this series and earned the award. Al Horford also played exceptionally well for the Celtics this entire season and finally got his first championship after 18 seasons in the NBA. A great way to end his career if he decides to call it quits this season.
As for the Mavs, they didn’t play badly. Luka still put up 28 points but didn’t have much help, as Kyrie was held to only 15 points the entire game. P.J. Washington, Dereck Lively, and Daniel Gafford were shut down to single-figure points. Not the best night for his supporting cast for Luka. Overall not a bad season for Dallas coming in as the 5 seed in the stacked Western Conference and making it to the Finals. It’s a great experience for Luka, who is still very young and can learn a lot from this series. The will contend next year and will make another run for a championship.
The Celtics are running out of room at TD Garden as they hand their 18th banner in franchise history and NBA record. Congrats to the franchise and you can check out the highlights above.
