Messi Wins Record Eight Ballon d’Or 2023

This doesn’t come as a surprise to Soccer fans.

Lionel Messi and Aitana Bonmati were named the 2023 Ballon d’Or winners on Monday, October 30th, 2023. The awards are given to the best male and female footballers in the world, respectively.

Messi won his record-extending eighth Ballon d’Or award, while Bonmati won her first. Messi had a stellar year, leading Argentina to victory at the FIFA World Cup and scoring 47 goals in all competitions for club and country. Bonmati also had a great year, winning the UEFA Women’s Champions League with Barcelona and scoring 16 goals in all competitions.

The winner is selected by 100 journalists from each of the top 100 FIFA-ranked nations.
